Margaux — London, UK
In a city like London, where big-name restaurant openings are two a penny, it is always refreshing to find a cosy neighbourhood gem where locals can gather and have a natter over some good wine and food. Situated on old Brompton road in the well-heeled neighbourhood of South Kensington, Margaux is an intimate eaterie set over two floors, designed by interior outfit Brinkworth, who created a welcoming industrial space with lots of exposed brick and pipework. Low hanging pendant lights with mismatched lampshades add texture, while a copper bar takes centre stage. Food is modern European, with classics like foie gras on toasted brioche and duck leg confit. Most impressive however, is the extensive wine list featuring a broad range of producers and grapes. If you become overwhelmed, ask Benoit, the ever so helpful GM.
