Dishoom King’s Cross — London, UK
Shamil and Kavi Thakrar’s small chain of Indian restaurants, Dishoom, which pays homage to Mumbai’s beloved Irani cafés, has opened a third outpost in London’s newly regenerated King’s Cross. The vast 9,000 sq ft restaurant, housed in the Western Transit Shed – a Grade II listed building dating from the 1850s – next to Granary Square, is spread over three floors and includes a cocktail and Bombay-style juice bar serving sugar cane drinks and locally inspired tipples such as chaijito – a smoky rum and sweet-spice chai syrup muddled with fresh mint, coriander, ginger and lime. Like its Covent Garden and Shoreditch cousins, it is furnished with carefully restored antiques and serves breakfast dishes, hot chai and hearty biryanis which are sure to be a hit with the neighbouring Central St Martin’s students.
