Perched on the craggy slopes of Italy’s Dolomite mountain range, Modern Chalet was designed by Armin Pedevilla, of Pedevilla Architects, both for his family and to rent out as a retreat. An eco-house which harnesses thermal and solar power to generate its own electricity and heat, the property skilfully combines Pedevilla’s distinctive minimalist style with an intuitive understanding of the region’s topography: a dark gabled exterior mirrors the surrounding mountain peaks, while large windows open the interior to panoramic vistas of the valley below. Inside, understated white concrete walls offset the bespoke wooden furniture, while the staircase and window frames are formed from local mountain pine. Located a few kilometres from San Vigilio in the ski resort of Kronplatz, Modern Chalet is the ideal place to immerse yourself in a variety of winter sports, while summer offers a real treat for hikers and mountain bikers.
