Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain — Chengdu, China
Six Senses Hotels and Resorts is big news right now. Debuting not only in Europe, in Portugal’s Douro Valley, but also across the globe in China, in the shadow of Sichuan’s sacred Qing Cheng Mountain. Designed by Thai architects Habita, the resort lies on 62 hectares of lush land and comprises 113 villas and suites dotted around inner courtyards, besides moon bridges and whispering bamboos. Continuing to trade on the eco credentials it built its reputation on, one look at the large bamboo-clad spa – with treatments based on traditional Chinese medicines - is also evidence of the brand’s commitment to integrated wellness. Water is bottled on site, while an organic garden that includes its own mushroom cultivation huts and maize and rice paddy fields, supplies the ingredients for the hotel’s Farm2Fork restaurant- a new concept in China. The UNESCO heritage Qing Cheng Mountain, studded with Taoist temples, abuts the property and beyond that, China’s national treasures can be found in the two Giant Panda reserves.
