It’s the perpetual photographic dilemma, to D-SLR or not to D-SLR. When it comes to cameras, budding snappers have long struggled with the impracticality of the big guns, whilst grinding their teeth at the less-than-perfect picture quality of a compact. That is, until now.

When Olympus first launched its seminal Pen series back in 1959, it changed the face of camera design - placing Olympus firmly on the map as a world-leader in the production of superior photographic equipment.

Fifty years on and Olympus, still leaders in their field, are set to release a stylish new overhaul of the pen series, providing the ultimate solution to the D-SLR dilemma.

The EP-1 goes on sale this month, and it looks likely to be welcomed by a very long waiting list. Available in both white and silver, the ultra-compact camera combines the extensive features of a D-SLR with all the practical benefits of a compact.

Featuring HD quality movie capability, image stabilisation, interchangeable lenses and several artistic filters including pop-art, pin-hole and grainy - the EP-1 looks set to redefine photography yet again, half a century since its release.
