We feel that boasting about the skinniness of your mobile phone is a bit passé. In fact, we’d go as far as to say that we miss the days when a phone looked and felt like a phone, not an i-Pod nano. Thankfully the design gurus at Nokia’s Finnish headquarters clearly feel the same and have satisfied our cravings with a handset that bucks the size zero handset trend.
The Nokia 8600 Luna is heavy and elegant, two factors that many mobile phone companies of late have overlooked in favour in sharp angles and weightless dimensions. The weight of the 8600 makes it feel valuable, not clunky and the curved edges add an ergonomic aspect to the design. The sliding smoked glass case covers a stainless steel body, which makes for a very tactile, more-ish movment.
The aesthetic is supported by the technicalities, which have been streamlined to sit well with the purity of the design. For the first time Nokia have used a single micro-USB port, meaning an end to the row of ugly connection ports and enabling virtually foolproof audio and data connectivity and regular charging all from a single connection. Quad-band GSM means the handset will work worldwide, whilst the two megapixel camera will record your trips with ample quality when your camera runs out of power.
And aside from all the clever technology our favourite feature is the ‘heartbeat’ illumination of the keypad under the sliding glass case, a lifelike and bizarrely satisfying addition.
