Comme des Garçons
Its refreshing to see a Comme des Garçons collection because creativity always comes before commerce and there is no room for compromise. Rei Kawakubo started her career working only in black, now she returns to it and is questioning its future, reducing it down to its parts and asking if it will be a colour anymore.
She created extraordinary shape through cutting cloth, leather and vinyl into hexagonally shaped pieces (imagine parts of a football), giving the garment structure through new geometry.
Kawakubo tries and succeeds to take fashion to someplace that it has never been before. Fabrics, too, were new, almost entirely developed for Comme des Garçons, including bonded wool gabardine, nylon, lace, devoré velvet, imitation leather and even transparent PVC sewn over white wadding. They were all combined like mosaics with a little silver, hinting at the vastness of black through the play on texture.
