Paris Autumn/Winter '08
Christian Lacroix
The women in the Christian Lacroix show were 'strong, beautiful and dangerous' and, believe it or not, a little like insects, cockroaches to be specific. This unexpected influence (along with movies, cabaret, the 1940s and the 1980s) gave him a strong focus on the silhouette, to suggest protection in ' this tough period'. For Lacroix, the collection was verging on the minimal, certainly simpler than usual, shown with just a pair of knee high boots, which left more space for the richness of the fabrics (coated wools that looked like elephant skin) and the decorative dreamy prints resembling modern stained-glass windows.
