New York Autumn/Winter 2008
Marc Jacobs
After the three-hour delay on last season's show, Marc pulled out all the stops for his end of fashion week show. Top dog editors were given banquettes around the catwalk perimeter with buckets of ice and mini Moet Champagne bottles, while Sonic Youth on stage provided the chillingly beautiful music. Lead singer Kim Gordon, wearing a stripy sequin vest dress, leapt around on stage with the toned legs of a racehorse.
Leaping was exactly what the models could not do in their slope-backed Cuban heeled shoes as they paraded in what seemed to be slow motion, making the most of showing off some wizardry cuts. Dropped shoulder jackets in dove grey billowed at the back and hugged the hips over peg trousers. Coats were cut in cuddly cocoon style, in cloud-light ivory and duck egg blue cashmere. For soirees, burnished gold, metallic fabric made up concertina pleat flares with box pleat backed jackets. The dress was a soft blue jersey number, floor length with a draped, cut out back.
