Hermès manages to evolve its menswear collection each season, with each new proposal being subtly different from the past – simultaneously building on the existing look whilst offering a rarely seen continuity to each collection.

This season, the jacket, shown as a suit and on its own, was cut slightly shorter with a high-breaking pointed revere. Coats came in either double breasted or in calfskin with a martingale belt.

Hermès may do good business in ties, but designer Véronique Nichanian showed just five, preferring instead to propose the Hermès printed scarf knotted around the neck to add a spark of colour. Another addition to men’s accessories came in the form of a long, slim, superfine cashmere scarf.

The overall look was effortlessly chic, but lacked any formality. Instead of shirt collars, a double-collar band and fine U-neck was used (an interesting cross between a round neck and a V-neck cut). Although still very elegant, the new style managed to dress down suits a notch or two for a more casual approach.
