Until now, the emotion we invest in inanimate objects tends not to be reciprocated, unless you have a particularly active imagination. Researchers at Utrecht University think that emotions might make robots more efficient, providing short cuts to simpler solutions to tasks. The research is at an early stage, but were hoping that it points to a future of subservient technology that knows when its best to stay out of your way.
