Contrasts Gallery, Shanghai
Under the direction of Pearl Lam, Contrasts Gallery is dedicated to the presentation of art and design from both East and West. Since being founded in 1999, the gallery has strived to promote creativity where art, architecture and design converge.
Lam chose the gallerys name to illustrate her philosophy relating to the importance of celebrating and exaggerating differences. Her mission is to take Western and Eastern influences in art and design and create a new aesthetic, which follows the Chinese tradition of refuting the superiority of fine art over decorative art.
Traditional silk Chinese boxes by Jurgen Bey will be presented alongside modernist pieces such as Nixon by Patrice Butler; a stainless steel structure with an ornate glitter cushion with lace highlighting the element of contrast throughout the gallerys assortment.
