Viktor & Rolf
Catching the feminine mood that swept through Milan, Viktor and Rolf showed a delightful and pretty collection. Plenty of pink and ruffles everywhere; cascading down swinging coats, puffing out of short sleeves, and around collars, where they even managed to fashion them out of white patent leather.
By using lace, they came up with a novel application of the classic diamond pattern, usually seen as intarsia in cashmere sweaters but here as a new insert detail on silk tops and dresses.
The violin became a novel motif, appliquéd in lace on tops and crossing the hips or hems of long pink gowns. The same instrument appeared in 3-D silk satin, first as a small necklace, and later for the finale, in full size around the neck of a pink housecoat. The effect was larger than life in a typical Viktor and Rolf fashion, as the violins nested in oversized ruffles alongside silk flowers shrouding the neck and shoulders.
