Milan fashion week
After presenting his brand new Giorgio Armani/Samsung phone and announcing his soon to be launched LCD TV, Armani went back to basics, i.e. clothing, with a show called Sud or South. His models donned sun kissed makeup, and had their silk pants tied in big knots at the knee, ready for dipping their toes in the sea off Pantelleria, or perhaps in the warm waters around Dubai where he will soon open his first Armani Hotel. Sleeves too were ruched up with drawstrings, and wave patterned prints pointed to his mysterious lost city of Atlantis. Best of all were the youthful summer jackets, short and slim with little puff sleeves, with a careful balance between formality and informality that work just as well on the beach as in town. This is Armani, so for evening there were plenty of gowns, and some novel beaded all-in-ones with racing backs that looked like the wearer had just stepped on to the beach in a gown and tucked up the hem between her legs. Armani himself, dressed in indigo denim and a white trimmed navy blazer with white shoes, looked set to sail away after the show on his yacht Mariu.
