One of our highlights from last year’s Design Miami was Studio Libertiny’s performance design of some unlikely sounding paper vases. Tomas Gabzdil Libertiny, the man behind the plan, laminated 700 sheets of paper into a block which, with the help of a lathe, was then carved it into vase.

In a pleasing inversion of the tree-wood-paper process, each sheet has an identical image of a tree on it which, when carved, leaves an ethereal tree print on the surface of the finished vase.
Quite apart from the smart process, we’re thrilled by the gentle, environmental message of using paper as wood. The vases are produced in 10 limited edition sets of five and if you missed them at Design Miami, our exclusive gallery shows how the process works.
