An upcoming auction at Sotheby's in London will showcase more than 150 pieces from the collection of style-setters Michael and Julia Pruskin of The Pruskin Gallery. Being given the opportunity to rifle through the horde of another's furniture and art collection is something no self-respecting design enthusiast should turn down. The gallery is renowned for its inventory of classic but unusual and hard-to-source pieces from around the world, across the 20th century and even the briefest of flicks through the sale's catalogue is proof that Mr. and Mrs. Pruskin have something of an expert eye.

The Pruskins love finding objects that, in their words, 'stand out from the crowd' or 'suddenly shock [you] into thinking a different way.' Highlights on offer at Sotheby's include a striking pair of mid-20th century glass and metal chandeliers by Maison Baguès (£40,000-60,000, pictured in our gallery), a large 1939 allegorical mural by Jean Dupas (£100,000-150,000), a 1950s chest of drawers by the French designer Jean Royère (£15,000-20,000), and a colourful oil on canvas work by British artist John Minton (£12,000-18,000).

Whether or not you're in the market to buy, the April auction represents a great opportunity to peruse and discover a diverse range of beautiful and important furniture and art; but please, if you do happen to go along, don't blame us if you get tempted to wave a paddle.
