One of the most important French designers of the mid-20th century, Pierre Paulin's prestigious commissions have included the renovation of the Denon wing of the Musée du Louvre, the renovation of the private apartments of the President Georges Pompidou at the Elysée, and the creation of the furniture for the Presidential Office of François Mitterrand. However it was his furniture manufactured by Artifort that brought him to the attention of the public. This year, at the age of 80, Paulin has worked for the first time with Swarovski on a chandelier to be presented in their Crystal Room at via Savona 56, Zona Tortona.
What else are you presenting at this year’s Salone de Mobile?
I am launching the 'Coupole' with Artifort – a sort of lampshade that can also be used as a bowl store things.
How many years have you been attending the Salone?
I’ve been going since the beginning.
What are you most looking forward to about being in Milan this year for the Salone?
The Salone is always exciting. This year Artifort are exhibiting the furniture I did for them between 1958-75. I love the idea that people are still enthusiastic about pieces I created so long ago.
