Interiors

Gamper is no stranger to the pages of Wallpaper*. The craftsman was awarded Best Alchemist at our most recent Design Awards in honour of his relentless ability to surprise and delight with his designs. The ‘alchemy’ of which we speak refers to his penchant for extraordinary deconstruction and reconstruction of everything from plastic garden chairs to one off Gio Ponti furniture.

For his Design Miami/Basel creation, Gamper resurrected the traditional process of ‘terazzo’, used for flooring to turn it into a series of table surfaces. The process involves setting marble and stone grindings into concrete, then polishing the mixture to a smooth surface. When aligned with a similar mixture of a different colour or texture a mosaic effect is achieved. The concrete panels are held in place with a brass framework and the tables are elevated on round, wooden legs.
