Galerie Patrick Seguin via New York’s Sonnabend Gallery, has over the past few years introduced the great and good of mid-century French modernism to the New York design scene. Jean Prouve was given an airing in 2003, then in 2006 Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret were shown, and now it’s the turn of Jean Royère.

Showing over 100 pieces of furniture and lighting, the collection traces the length and breadth of Royère’s career. As retrospectives go, it’s certainly a comprehensive exhibition. Indeed for anyone unfamiliar with the Frenchman’s work, a brief scuttle through the Sonnabend will leave you something of a pro in the free-form 1950s style of which Royère was the master.
