Tokyo-born Keiji Ashizawa might be first known as an interior designer and architect, but his recent foray into product design is what’s made us sit up and take notice. Whilst running an eponymous office since 2005, Ashizawa has accumulated a worthy product catalogue in recent years.

Each product is founded on the sincere design philosophy of logical thinking, from the ‘Flatpacking System’ series that experimented with laser cutting steel to produce origami-like tables and chairs, shelving and lighting, to 2006’s ‘Parabola Light’, an oversized spotlight created by shining a light onto a mirrored conical dish. In his latest piece, ‘Drawer shelf’ completed in July, Ashizawa gives a traditional drawer unit a twist, thanks to movable shelves that can be configured to one’s wishes.
