As far as design awards go, we obviously feel our annual Wallpaper* awards stand head and shoulders above any others. But we pride ourselves also on our philanthropic attitude towards celebrating good design of whatever origin, and it’s in this spirit that we applaud the Design Museum’s Brit Insurance Designs of the Year awards.
Celebrating the best in global design, this is the Design Museum’s first foray into the world of design awards and, if the exhibition of all 100 nominees is anything to go by, it certainly won’t be their last. Divided into seven categories (architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactive, product and transport), the Design Museum called upon a wide group of internationally respected experts in various fields to nominate.
We’re thrilled to see plenty of the nominees and winners from our own Design Awards in the mix (and this is nothing to do with the fact that Tony Chambers, our very own Editor-in-Chief, was a nominator), including Jil Sander, Martino Gamper, Tokujin Yoshioka and SANAA’s New Museum in New York. It’s good to know we’re all singing from the same hymnbook, so to speak.
Check back on 18 March when the winners will be announced...
