Design Miami 2007

December 2007: in review

The expanding domain of design-art is on everyone’s lips and come December, mumblings on the subject reach cacophonous proportions when the great and good of the industry gather for Design Miami. Now in its third year, the fair has fast established itself as a highlight on the calendar for anyone with even a passing interest in design or art. And preferably both.

Its success is largely due to the scale (refreshingly manageable), atmosphere (contemporary and vibrant) and organisation (slickly segregated). The event is comprised of curated exhibitions from a cross section of the world’s greatest galleries, talks, awards, performances and ‘satellite exhibitions’.

Each is tightly edited to fit into the whole. Careful attention is paid at all times to the ‘experience’. And with Miami’s art district as a backdrop, the whole shebang couldn’t be further removed from the sprawling, labyrinthine booths of Salone’s Feria.

Hence, we thought it time to celebrate this growing gem of a fair by bringing you profiles of each of the participating design galleries (click on the names, right) - including a selection of pieces they are exhibiting - and an exclusive interview with its creator Ambra Medda.
