This month, we give carte blanche to leading US artist Taryn Simon, Asia-based German architect Ole Scheeren and Chinese star pianist Lang Lang in our sixth annual Guest Editors' issue (W*163 - out now). On Wallpaper* we offer a taster of what's in store in the magazine, and add some morsels of our own...
The US artist Taryn Simon has the compositional
chops of a master cinematographer, the ace reporter's nose for a story and the
semiotician's sense of the slipperiness of meaning. As Wallpaper* guest editor,
she presents two new projects in our October issue that look at how we organise
and understand images in a digital world and the analogue charm of the New York
Public Library Picture collection. Here on Wallpaper.com, we preview her
forthcoming show, Black Square, at the Gagosian Gallery in Athens, and take a
look back over some of her seminal works.

If Beijing has an Empire State Building, a
defining icon, civic spirit in steel and concrete (or something similar), it's
the OMA-designed CCTV Tower. Its lead architect was a young German, Ole
Scheeren, who went East to seek professional adventure and stayed. His own
practice now works in Beijing, Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. For our
October issue, he brings together artists and writers from all these cities for
a unique take on Asia's incredible urban life. Here, we take a look at his most
recent project: a floating cinema at the Venice Architecture Biennale.

The pianist Lang Lang
is at once emblematic of contemporary China - the Little Emperor with the Tiger
Dad - and a rare classical performer with global pull. In the magazine, he
takes us on an illustrated tour of the halls, auditoria, stadia (and
Presidential piles) where he has wooed and wowed. On Wallpaper.com, we see him
in action in the Palace of Versailles, in a recent collaborative performance
with experimental theatre director (and 2010 guest editor) Robert Wilson and
composer Alexandre Desplat.
