Insolito Hotel, Búzios, Brazil
Just over a year after it opened a new beach club, this boutique charmer on a rocky hillside in Búzios continues to expand. French entrepreneur Emmanuelle Meeus de Clermont-Tonnerre has added nine new guest rooms and a new restaurant to the hotel, converted from her own home. Once again themed around local history and culture, the new rooms - housed in a separate building connected to the main house - are inspired by Brazilian modernism, with furniture from Jorge Zalszupin and photographs by Almir Reis. Meanwhile the new restaurant serves up Franco-Brazilian treats like filet of beef in a jaboticaba sauce with a mandioquinha gratin, and crayfish with banana prata risotto.
