Chor Bazaar
Come prepared to haggle and hunt at Chor Bazaar, a messy warren of shops where you're likely to find everything from vintage steamer trunks to discarded auto parts. The main thoroughfare that extends through this flea market is called Mutton Street - as you traverse down it you might find yourself jostling elbows with hoards that could well include art collectors, interior decorators and boutique owners who all come here for inspiration and to source rare finds. A word to the wise: the 'good' stuff is usually tucked away in back rooms, and shop owners will usually only bring it out if they think you're serious about buying.
Some of the must-stops include Taherally's for first editions of books, original railyway lights and antique English silver; Dada Kasam Mansuri for vintage cameras of every make; Old Empire for old Lalique and Baccarat crystal (but look for markings at the bottom of each piece). Also visit Variety Antiques for a random assortment of knick-knacks from cigarette cases to old typewriters (great for gift-finding) and Art Centre for restored Art Deco cabinets in teak and rosewood, as well as charming old trunks with original stickers and initials of their past owners' wanderings
