In July 2007, Paris debuted a new metered self-service bicycle
transit system called Vélib. Now Parisians and visitors alike
can pick up and drop off any of the 10,000 dove-grey bikes
throughout the city at 750 locations. Barcelona was slightly
earlier with its zappy red-and-white Bicing system in March,
with 1,500 bicycles and 100 stations, connecting other public transport stations, such as train and bus stops and car parks.
