Prospero & Ariel at the BBC building (scroll down for full description)
The intended starting point is Eric Gills spiritual alma mater, Central Saint Martins, and its museum & study collection. But Im in town and make my way directly to the BBC building to see Prospero & Ariel. Past a Post Office, John Lewis, some public housing, offices and corporations, all in ubiquitous eponymous Gill.
A bus passes with an ad for the new Eddie Murphy filmat a glance it could be Nutty Professor 3. The first drawing of Gill Sans Ultrabold was called Elephant.
"There are now about as many varieties of letters as there are different kinds
of fools. I myself am responisble for designing five different sorts of sans-serif
letterseach one thicker & fatter than the last, because every advertisement
has to shout down its neighbours." (Eric Gill 1947)
