Despite not quite fitting with the ascribed pop-up description, Proud Cabaret - the latest permanent outcrop of the Proud Galleries in Camden, North London - opened earlier this month, in line with the rest of our picks. High-octane and with enough out-there razzmatazz to hold its own against the rest, it seemed only fair to include it in our list. Describing itself as 'an arcane retreat, fine-dining experience and cabaret club', Proud Cabaret takes it's decadent cue from 1920's speakeasies and Weimar-era jazz haunts. Located at the beating heart of the City of London and hidden beneath a deceptively unassuming facade comes a subterranean world of plush, velvet -decked booths; leather-upholstered banquettes and heavy draping curtains. Designed by the masterminds at Russel Sage Studios - who have worked with the likes of LVMH no less - dinner, dancing and excessive drinking are order of the day, with ostentation a-plenty on tap. Dining is suitably Anglo-centric, with Maldon rock oysters, pig cheeks, shepherds pie and beef wellington comprising the core of the comfort centered menu - our booth's been booked for months.
