It’s been a long time coming, but the ‘city of broad shoulders’ is once again a confident, hopeful place. Look skywards and you’ll see glittering corporate towers and the iconography of civic ambition. Renzo Piano’s expansion of the Art Institute is almost done, as is his new bridge, linking the institute to the Millennium Park. Work has begun on Calatrava’s Chicago Spire and The Golden Mile is glitzier than ever.
