For cutting-edge tableware we head west to Notting Hill, where Vessel, Nadia Demetriou Ladas and Angel Monzon’s haven of glassware and ceramics, is tucked away just a stone’s throw from Portobello Road. From opulent Italian glass form the likes of Venini, Salviati and Bitossi, to Scandinavian functional designs like Iittala, Orrefors and Stelton and collections from big guest names, Marcel Wanders, Hella Jongerius and Thomas Heatherwick, Vessel has table accessories, sculptures and lighting covered from all angles.
What might sound like a clashing collection of styles is carefully art directed by Monzon and the store often appears more gallery than shop. Which is appropriate given the couple regularly host ceramic and glassware exhibitions, based either thematically or around a particularly striking collection by an individual designer. Over the design festival, Vessel will be showing ‘Fluid Genius’ a collection of works by master glassblower and ceramicist Simon Moore.
