Patrick Seguin, Paris

When people speak today of the Design Art movement, they won’t talk for long without mentioning Patrick Seguin, arguably the most prominent pioneer in the field. Based in the spectacular 300 square feet gallery in Bastille since 1989, Seguin has set himself up as the world's leading expert on French Post-War Design.

His understanding of the period has resulted in a clutch of exhibitions that received global applause, notably the Jean Prouve retrospective at the Sonnabend Gallery in New York (2003), the Charlotte Perriand - Jean Prouve exhibition at the LA Gagosian (2004) and an exhibition of the furniture by Pierre Jeanneret, designed for the Indian city of Chandigarh, also at the Sonnabend in New York (2006).

The rich output of work in France during the Post-War renaissance gave birth to social and technological advances, which in turn led to a grand period of experimentation in design. And the contents of Seguin's gallery reads like a roll call of the period’s finest names: Jean Prouve, Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Serge Mouille, Pierre Jeanneret and Alexandre Noll.
