With an unlikely lead into mid-century furniture design from fashion photography, Philippe Jousse ditched his models and lenses in the Eighties and set about building up a furniture and art collection instead. His studies enabled him to organise the first retrospective show of Charlotte Perriand's work in 1987 and relatively recently in 2000, Jousse opened his own gallery, Jousse Entreprise, in Paris.
The gallerist prides himself on bridging the worlds between objects and art, hence giving rise to his particular interest in multi-disciplinary designers, architects and artists, such as Perriand, Le Corbusier, Jean Prouve and Alexandre Noll, to name just a few of his staple fare. In 2002 Matthias Jousse joined Jousse Enterprise, bringing with him a clutch of modernist French names from the Seventies, including Michel Boyer, Roger Tallon and Atelier A.
Jousse Enterprise will be showing a classic edit of their collection at Design Miami this year, including pieces by Pierre Jeanneret and Jean Prouve alongside recent commissions like Rick Owens’ Stag Bench.
