Johnson Trading Gallery, New York

Where so many of the galleries participating in Design Miami serve to resurrect forgotten names and pieces from past eras of design, Johnson Trading Gallery has its roots firmly planted in the present and future.

Started this year by Paul Johnson, the dynamic director and owner of Phurniture Inc., the gallery presents individual pieces from emerging and established designers, architects and artists, linked by their desire to push the boundaries of traditional furniture design, construction and production.

The group exhibition New Stuff, which opened on November 13th and runs until December 22nd, showcases specially commissioned work by, amongst others, Max Lamb, Steven Holl Architects, Jospeh Heidecker and Aranda/Lasch. Pieces from the gallery's inaugural exhibition will form the basis of Johnson's collection at this year's fair.
