Demisch Danant, New York

Demisch Danant features 20th century European design and decorative arts. With a particular emphasis on French design from the late 1960s to 1980, the New York gallery presents designers such as Maria Pergay and Pierre Paulin as well as artist-designed furniture, and important designers commissioned by France’s Mobilier National.

The gallery is engrossed in promoting the understanding of this particularly design-rich era, which is notable for work by designers who incorporated new materials, humour and spirit into their creations.

At Design Miami, Demisch Danant will be presenting a rare selection of Eighties West German avant-garde designs, intent on realising social, political and philosophical ideas through the production of everyday objects. Rare works will be on display including those by Cologne’s Pentagon Group, Stefan Zwicky’s Concrete chair and Herbert Jacob Weinand’s ‘Bullet-proof’ glass table; a unique piece incorporating a piece of bullet cracked glass taken from a 1969 Munich bank robbery.
