Reform Gallery, Los Angeles
Reform is the brainchild of Californian design enthusiast Gerard O'Brien, specialising in Californian Modernism. O'Brien, an esteemed member of the Decorative Arts Council for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, has been an avid collector of design for over twenty years, and finally realised his ambition of opening a gallery in 2003. The success of his gallery led to an upsized relocation in 2004 to its current 5000 square feet home on La Cienega Boulevard.
Part of what we love most about Design Miami is that the fair highlights periods and locations of design that have previously found it hard to gain exposure through lack of a global platform. This is certainly true of Reform, the first West Coast gallery to participate in Design Miami.
Bringing to the fore some of the finest examples of Californian Modernism, including Arthur 'Espenet' Carpenter, Sam Maloof, Bruce Mitchell and Tanya Aguiniga, the gallery is proof that one man's scholarly approach to a relatively niche period and location of design is sufficient to ignite interest on a global scale.
