Louis Vuitton, Autumn/Winter '08 (scroll down to read the review)
Louis Vuitton
The runway provided the perfect showcase for Damier Graphite; Vuitton’s new black and grey colour additions to the brand’s 120-year-old Damier canvas, and they didn’t fail to impress. In fact, the hold-alls, briefcases, DJ bags and motorbike helmets were so convincing we wondered why they never had the idea before. The Wallpaper* most-wanted accessory was without doubt the weekender and computer case that came with changeable handles in contrasting colours - chalky white being our colour of choice. However, the most entertaining item had to be the grand piano clad in Damier Graphite that sat proudly at the end of the runway.

The collection itself was full of super subtle detailing, with secret pockets, specially engineered cloth that resembled the engraved watermarking of European banknotes and ‘shady’ fabrics that changed colour as the light passed over them. The overall look was polished and suave, especially the gloves that appeared with every look. The theme for the collection was desire for luxury and the dreams that only money can buy, as inspired by debonair robbers Alain Delon and Jean Gabin in the 1963 film ‘Melodie en Sous Sol’.

Wallpaper* also pays kudos to Marc Jacobs who shared his final bow with Vuitton’s Menswear Studio Director Paul Helbers. It’s always warming to see the big names admitting that design is a team effort.
