Junya Watanabe, Spring/Summer '09 (scroll down to read the review)
Junya Watanabe
You'd have to get up pretty early in the morning to correctly label a designer like Junya Watanabe as run-of-the-mill. Perhaps even more so this season as Rei Kawakubo's protege successfully dished up an awe-inspiring assortment of design interpretations branching from a tree of African tribal prints.

Different strokes for different folks? You bet. And although the massive dried flower head pieces might not be everyone's cup of tea, the Manon des Sources meets Malick Sidibe vibe exemplified both Mother Earth and hippy-chic rolled into one.

Throw in a chirping bird soundtrack and some of the most alluring denim fishtail skirts ever sent down a runway and you've got yourself an A-grade ticket to one of the highlights of Paris Fashion Week.
