Maison Martin Margiela, Spring/Summer '08 (scroll down to read the review)
Maison Martin Margiela
It was Martin Margiela back in 1989 who showed a shoulder so tight and tiny that it killed off the 1980s power shoulder for good. It was a shock then, and now, years later, the focus is back in the same area.

Last season’s theme was continued, this time with shoulders that torpedo out from the body in an exaggerated manner and taper back onto the top of the arm, keeping the overall silhouette beneath close to the body.

The collection was powerful, minimal and full of contrasts: the structure of the shoulder versus the fluidity of jersey, micro short versus very long, and opaque and matte versus shredded and barely there. The brand also launched a new eyewear collection with a visor style model called appropriately ‘L’incognito’ - something Martin Margiela himself has mastered the art of.
