Paul Smith, Spring/Summer 08
Paul Smith
Forever a Brit, Paul Smith was inspired by that very British summer sport, cricket. That meant cream flannel, blazers, club stripes and polo shirts. Cream dominated the collection but there were also masses of colour from pink plimsolls to stripy ties and colourful patterned knits.
The blazer dominated, coming in stripes, checks and gingham and as a retro cricket jacket along with lapels bound in contrast silk. Suit jackets in Prince of Wales checks and pinstripes were worn with colourful bold striped ties and mixed with classic cut jeans, giving an easy look. Spots, stripes and checks were scaled up for the graphic knitwear, which included Henleys, polos, rugby shirts and vests.
The round glasses and all the colour made us think of David Hockney who has been a bit of an influence this season.
