Designer Stefano expanded on ideas of specially treated and developed fabrications first shown in his Fall/Winter women’s collection. Knits looked like they were laddered and darned, leather seemed worn and punctured with holes (for Winter a sander was taken to the surface of the leather). Patches like those applied to your favourite pair of jeans turned up on shirts, and patchwork appeared made up of remnants of cloth.
He combined highly elegant pieces (suiting, smart coats) with the poor, i.e. the damaged goods as well as workwear inspired styles, like carpenter pants. Washed silk showed up in double-breasted jackets, tucked into pants (last seen at Comme des Garcons in the 80s) as well as in pyjama pants and shirts (that were also seen at Miu Miu in Milan).
Suede shoes were lightly splattered with multi-coloured paint or smothered like a painter’s palette. Pants and jackets got the same treatment, while silk scarves tied round the neck and shirts that looked like painters smocks gave a similar out-of-the-studio look.
