Oscar de la Renta, Spring/Summer '08 (scroll down to read the review)
Oscar de la Renta
Church-going used to be the big fashion event of the week and Oscar de la Renta revisited that social trend with a collection shown in a church on Park Avenue that had been repainted for the event. The funky new age Polyphonic Spree gospel band took centre stage while models in de la Renta's uptown chic strolled the catwalk.
There were many exquisite things - olive silk bell-sleeved jackets over slim-cut stove pipe trousers, leather sac dresses in ivory with a big zipper and pockets, swirly skirt suits with palm prints and sequin embroidery - all handled, of course, with the utmost taste.
Like many this week, de la Renta touched on the tribal trend with motifs on knits and taste for terracotta black and ivory combined and pretty ikat weaves on silk taffeta bubble dresses.
