Proenza Schouler, Spring/Summer ’08 (scroll down to read the review)
Proenza Schouler
The prodigiously talented duo of Jack and Lazaro was the big event of Friday’s New York fashion week with their collection which was shown in the mahogany panelled rooms of the Park Avenue Armoury. Following the 45 per cent buy out by the Valentino group, the pair showed themselves to be every bit worth the investment with a thoroughly grown-up collection of military inspired urban wear that could past muster in the boardroom or bedroom.

They kept their silhouette tight with tailored layered hemp waistcoats over scalloped-edge white cotton dresses topped off with plumed cavalry hats and ended by riveted strappy leather heels. Their military theme was explored through a refreshingly wide angle. There were kimono style jackets and tunic dresses in indigo embroidered linen which took their heart from Samurai warrior wear and tiny wood bead embroidered thigh-length skirted dresses which looked to Africa. Evening ended in a flourish of gold with sheath dresses intricately made from layer upon layer of tiny gold feathers. Fine plumage all round.
