G-Star, Autumn/Winter '08 (scroll down to read the review)
G-Star
New York fashion week, unlike the strict high fashion element of Milan and Paris, has become a platform for not only established American designers, but also for younger start ups and for European sportswear brands (in the American sense). Hence Diesel, Miss Sixty, Lacoste, Y3 and G-Star come to show their news alongside Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren (who all do huge business themselves in sportswear too).

G-Star, who are actually from the Netherlands, first and foremost focus on the product and although that has expanded way beyond 'just' denim and jeans, this still forms an important base for the collection.

The show was as strong as ever, all oversized details and high-tech fabrics, but for us was particularly notable for the appearance of legendary acting heavyweight Dennis Hopper, whose finale rendition of Kipling’s ‘If’ was literally a show-stopper.
