Versace, Spring/Summer 08 (scroll down to read the review)
Gianni Versace
Versace, of late, has become one of Wallpaper*s most anticipated Milan shows, delivering consistent, strongly focused womens collections for the past 4 seasons. We just love the direction that Donatella Versace is taking the brand in. Gone are the baroque prints, the in your face cleavage and all the overt sexuality that went with it.
In its place is clothing that is grown up just enough, super refined and believe it or not reduced (you could never really call it minimal). Its sensual rather than sexy, full of plenty of great day looks and the best evening wear seen in Milan.
Tailoring was soft, almost unstructured (new for the house), silks were enzyme-washed giving day wear an ease and the leathers, cut in kangaroo, glossy like silk and light as can be. The reduction left just exceptional cut, exquisite construction (some verging on Couture) and very little embellishment. It's time for women who might have thought Versace is not for them, to go and have a serious look.
