With their fall collection, Dean and Dan Caten proved that they are as comfortable on the ranch as they are in the bustling city streets of London (where they live) and Milan (where they work). Being metropolitan designers, however, means that the twins’ vision of prairie style is a long way away from anything the American pioneer novelist Laura Ingalls Wilder could have conceived. The peasant blouse, for example, was redux in naughty, skin-tight red leather with puff sleeves, while floor-dusting skirts and coats appeared in outlaw-friendly black leather. The designers played around with all of the staples of the Wild West, from ten-gallon hats and bow-tied neckties, to laced-up cowboy boots and curvy denim jackets, turning them into original items with the help of their signature wit and raucous style.
