Prada
It never ceases to amaze us the way that Miuccia Prada can reinvent the most banal and basic items with jaw-dropping originality. Take the headgear in her fall show, which initially resembled 1950s swim caps, but then magically morphed into fox-topped biker helmets with thick rubber straps. Elegant ‘Signora’-style silhouettes, typified by A-line skirts, 1960s swing coats and stiff drop-waist mini dresses, got splashed with quirky, subversive layers such as woolly fur tufts, bare-back cuts, and rich layers of plastic fish scales. But the best double-take touch came in the footwear, where heeled boots were constructed from a collage of exotic skins that made the models appear to be wearing knee-high socks.
