Burberry Prorsum
As with his men's collection, Christopher Bailey looked to the British painter LS Lowry for colour, texture and attitude. As usual, there were plenty of coats including the trench and some newer A-line and cocoon shapes. Milan is a great season for outerwear and Burberry seemed to please the American buyers with their ample offer. Bailey loves surface decoration, so velvet was smocked, leather was ruched, and wool bouclé was felted. He went on to make sequins out of suede, feathers out of leather and fur and added coats, dresses and scarves for a very rich effect. Most wanted: the cardigan coats in chenille.
