Missoni
Risk taking, i.e. moving a brand forward, is essential in an industry like fashion and Missoni, under the creative direction of Angela Missoni have done just that. Working on a silhouette that hugs the hips (described technically as a 'double reversed trapezium'!) was right on track, as Milan is still all about new volumes. Slim pants, fine knits and elbow length gloves were mixed with bigger volumes for layering, not only of shape but fabrication and colour (peacock, turmeric, raspberry, and pistachio with grey, black and petroleum). Missoni came up with a novel way of wearing pattern in winter (which, let’s face it, is harder than in summer), by lining their double-faced capes, jackets and coats in signature raschel knit so you can show as much or as little as you feel.

At the show we sat next to architect Matteo Thun (his studio was practically next door), and grilled him about the Missoni Hotel project, the first of which opens in Kuwait in October. Thun, the man behind some of our favourite spas, Vigilius Mountain Resort (Wallpaper*, December 2005) and Terme Merano (Wallpaper* Jan/Feb 2005) is working with Rosita Missoni on the project.
