Belstaff, Autumn/Winter 2008 (scroll down to read review)
Belstaff
Belstaff today is a long way from Staffordshire in 1924 when it was founded producing waxed cotton waterproof clothing for motorcyclists. That credit goes to the Italians who took over the business four years ago and their attempts to augment the ever popular core products with pieces that may never go anywhere near an actual Motorino. The show was held in The Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, conveniently next door to Belstaff’s Milan HQ in the trendy Zona Tortona neighbourhood. All the sculptures were left in situ which gave us plenty to look at while we waited for the show to begin. The classic Belstaff was revisited, lengthened and A-line in polished black leather that looked almost like rubber. Elements such as the two-stud closing pocket were lifted and placed solo on high neck knits and nappa tunics.
