Margaret Howell’s understated utilitarian staples had a new sporty bent with racing backs, chalky white canvas lace-ups, and plenty of stripy jersey. With most looks layered over swimsuits (and styled with the odd rubber swim hat) it looked like perfect garb for summers in Norfolk, especially as many looks came with raincoats, useful for those UK showers. Howell’s skill is to make the ordinary extraordinary, tirelessly refining her classics season after season.
